(1879) German psychologist and linguist Karl Buhler was born. He is known for his work in language and child psychology.

(1894) French novelist and physician Louis-Ferdinand Celine is born. He was a physician who worked in a maternity ward and also wrote about the conditions of workers on an assembly line.

(1907) American marine biologist Rachel Carson was born. She wrote many books on all life present in oceans, from the deep seafloor to the shores.
