(1) (1907) French physician and haematologist Jean Bernard is born. He was the director of the Institute for Leukemia at the University of Paris and also studied treatments for Hodgkin’s disease.

(2) (1981) UK-born ethnobotanist and garden designer James Wong is born. He was the presenter of the UK show Grow Your Own Drugs, which demonstrated a number of natural remedies sourced from plants.

(3) (2014) World Health Organization confirms that Ebola has reached Sierra Leone.
