(1) (1493) Philosopher, physician, botanist, and astrologer Paracelsus is born. Along with being credited for creating the terms zinc, chemistry, gas and alcohol, he is also known for introducing clinical diagnosis and administering highly-specific medications.
(2) (1743) Swedish naturalist Carl Peter Thunberg is born. He is known as the ‘father of South African botany’ and worked for the Dutch East India Company as a surgeon.
(3) (1951) American savant Kim Peek is born. He had autism and FG syndrome, and is known as a megasavant for his exceptional memory. He was the inspiration for Raymond Babbitt in the movie Rain Man.
