(1846) American physician, organization founder and social reformer Rebecca Cole is born. She is the second African-American woman to become a doctor in the US.

(1925) Mexican chemist Luis E. Cárdenas is born. He was the co-inventor of the progestin norethisterone, which was used in one of the first few oral contraceptives.

(1936) Armenian-American physician, medical practitioner, and inventor Raymond Vahan Damadian is born. He invented the first magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine.
