(1758) Argentinian physician Cosme Argerich is born. He is known for helping contain the smallpox epidemics in Argentina and became the country’s primary advocate for immunization.

(1849) Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov is born. He is most famously known for his work in classical conditioning, a learning procedure that links a neutral stimulus with a biologically potent one.

(1877) Italian neurologist Ugo Cerletti is born. He is known for discovering electroconvulsive therapy, a shock therapy that uses electric currents to treat certain mental disorders.
