(1920) Isaac Asimov was born. He co-authored a college textbook Biochemistry and Human Metabolism, and also wrote a number of science fiction books.

(1953) American virologist, author, and academic Vincent Racaniello was born. His research focuses on the poliovirus, and his model of the poliovirus in mice has helped to test the effects of the polio vaccine.

(2007) American geneticist David Perkins passes away. His research focused on the genetics and reproduction of Neurospora crassa.
