(1) (1930) British surgeon Roy Yorke Calne was born. In 1987, he performed the world’s first liver, heart, and lung transplant.

(2) (1930) Chinese pharmaceutical chemist Tu Youyou was born. She is known for discovering artemisinin and dihydroartemisinin, which are used to treat malaria.

(3) (1960) English computational biologist and academic Richard M. Durbin was born. His research includes genomic sequencing and the neural modeling of C. elegans.
