(2005) German-American biologist and ornithologist Ernst Walter Mayr passes away. His research focused on species and their evolution, mating, and survival.

(2012) Polish immunologist Andrzej Szczeklik passes away. His research focused on heart and lung diseases, such as aspirin-induced asthma.
