(1743) British naturalist and botanist Joseph Banks is born. He is known for introducing a number of plant species, including eucalyptus, to the Western world.

(1933) American medical scientist Judah Folkman is born. He is best known for his research on tumor angiogenesis, the process by which a tumor attracts blood vessels to create a supply of nutrients for itself.

(2016) American physician George C. Nichopoulos passes away. He was best known for his role as Elvis Presley’s personal physician.
