Today In Medical History – September 27

(1818) German organic chemist Hermann Kolbe is born. He coined the term synthesis and he also prepared salicylic acid, a building block of aspirin.

(1913) American psychologist Albert Ellis is born. He is known for developing rational emotive behavior therapy, a form of therapy that focuses on resolving emotional and behavioral problems and disturbances so that people can live healthy lives.

(1917) American microbiologist Benjamin Rubin is born. He invented the bifurcated vaccination needle, which helped to eradicate smallpox.
