(1) (1758) German physician and astronomer Heinrich Wilhelm Matthias Olbers is born. During the day he would tend to his patients, and at night he would observe planets, even naming the asteroid Pallas.
(2) (1809) American phrenologist Orson Squire Fowler is born. He wrote about and taught phrenology, preservation of health, and popular education.
(3) (1884) German chemist Friedrich Bergius is born. He shared the 1931 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for developing the process to produce synthetic fuel from coal.
