(1) (1831) Charles Darwin begins his journey aboard the HMS Beagle, where he developed his theory of evolution.

(2) (1845) Ether, an anesthetic, is used for childbirth for the first time, in Georgia.

(3) (1882) French chemist and microbiologist Louis Pasteur is born. He created the first vaccines for anthrax and rabies and is known for developing the process of pasteurization.
