(1) (1850) German inventor and physicist Karl Ferdinand Braun is born. He is known for his contributions to the development of the radio and television technology.
(2) (1990) Jewish Austrian neurophysiologist and psychiatrist Manfred Sakel is born. He is credited with developing insulin shock therapy in 1927. Insulin shock therapy was a treatment for schizophrenia by inducing daily comas for weeks using large doses of insulin.
(3) (1918) American biochemist Edwin G. Kerbs is born. He shared the 1992 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for describing how phosphorylation can activate proteins in cells.
