September 15

(1) (1880) Japanese physician Chujiro Hayashi is born. As a physician, he was known to employ Reiki on his patients. Reiki, also called hand healing, is a form of alternative medicine where a ‘universal energy’ is transferred from the palm of the physician to the patient.

(2) (1911) American physician and public health official Luther Terry is born. He was the ninth Surgeon General of the United States and was best known for his warnings of the dangers and impact on health of tobacco.

(3) (1932) American chemist Neil Bartlett is born. He is most noted for creating the first noble gas compounds.
