(1) (1553) Spanish theologian, physician, and Renaissance humanist Michael Servetus passes away. He was the first European to correctly describe the function of pulmonary circulation, where the cardiovascular system carries blood from the heart to the lungs, and returns oxygenated blood back to the heart.
(2) (1931) Egyptian feminist activist, physician and psychiatrist Nawal El Saadawi is born. She is the founder of the Arab Women’s Solidarity Association and the Health Education Association.
(3) (2015) Indian clinical pharmacologist, medical academic and health planner Ranjit Roy Chaudhury passes away. He was very influential in forming policies for clinical trials and drug guidelines in India.
