(1917) English biochemist John Kendrew is born. He shared the 1962 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for determining the structures of proteins like myoglobin using X-ray crystallography.

(1927) American biochemist and academic John Woodland Hastings is born. He is known for his research in bioluminescence and circadian rhythms.
