(1672) French physician and chemist Étienne François Geoffroy is born. Although he was best known for his affinity tables, he also taught chemistry, pharmacy, and medicine.

(1728) Scottish surgeon John Hunter is born. He is known for advancing the knowledge of dental transplants.

(1945) British biologist Marian Dawkins is born. She is an animal behaviour professor at the University of Oxford.
