(1) (1730) Dutch physiologist, biologist and chemist Jan Ingenhousz is born. He is known for demonstrating that light is required for photosynthesis to occur, and that plants also have cellular respiration.

(2) (1874) Austrian physician and pediatrician Ernst Moro is born. He was the first to describe infant reflex and coined the term ‘first trimester’.

(3) (1947) American chemist Thomas Cech is born. He shared the 1989 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for demonstrating that RNA has catalytic properties and that RNA can cut itself.
