(1794) French physiologist Jean Pierre Flourens is born. Through experiments on animals, he was the first person to prove that the mind is in the brain and not the heart, as previously thought.

(1941) American geneticist Michael Stuart Brown is born. He shared the 1985 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for describing the regulation of cholesterol metabolism.

(1953) Allen Dulles, the director of the CIA, launches the mind-control program called Project MKUltra.
