(1930) Christiaan Eijkman passed away. He was known for his contributions to nutritional
diseases and science, eventually receiving the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for
discovering vitamins.


(1992) The first National Pain Awareness Week begins in Canada. It’s an important time to
bring attention to chronic pain, which 1 and 5 Canadians live with.


(1994) President Ronald Reagan announced he had Alzheimer’s disease, the most common type of dementia. The Ronald and Nancy Reagan Research Institute was established a year later and dedicated to Alzheimer’s research.
