(1) (1858) Indian polymath, physicist, biologist, and biophysicist Jagadish Chandra Bose is born. His research focused heavily on plants, their stressors and their growth.

(2) (1872) Canadian poet, physician, and author John McCrae is born. Although he was a prominent physician and studied and taught pathology, he is best known for his poem, ‘In Flanders Fields’, a famous War World I memorial poem.

(3) (1938) British haematologist, oncologist and medical researcher John M. Goldman is born. He carried out some of the first bone marrow transplants for in Europe and was also involved in the development of the cancer drug Imatinib
