(1) (1922) American biochemist Stanley Cohen is born. He shared the 1986 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for isolating nerve growth factor and for discovering epidermal growth factor.

(2) (1942) British professor, medical doctor, and endocrinologist Lesley Rees is born. She has improving medical education and published over 300 articles in peer-reviewed journals, many on endocrinology.

(3) (1942) Hungarian microbiologist, medical researcher, and blood donor organizer István Rosztóczy is born. He is known for his research on interferon, a group of proteins which are released in response to pathogen exposure.
