Rumour: Consuming microalgae supplements are beneficial because they can help repair damaged cells

Truth: This is true. Tetraselmis suecica, is a type of microalgae that possesses high levels of carotenoids, a group of pigments with known anti-oxidative properties. A recent study published by Scientific Reports tested an extract from this organism on human cells that had undergone oxidative stress, resulting in cell damage. The findings indicate that this extract was associated with the induction of repair mechanisms as well as, a decrease in the amount of damage markers present.
