Rumour: A protein, NRF-2, has shown to counteract inflammation and oxidation in osteoarthritis.
Truth: This is true.
Osteoarthritis is a condition where the bones of the body begin to degenerate. Many older adults experience osteoarthritis, leading to walking pains and disability. Although there is no treatment for osteoarthritis, NRF-2, a protein that is known to counteract bone resorption, may be promising in treating osteoarthritis.
The Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences have illustrated that NRF-2 can reduce inflammatory responses that elicit further bone deterioration. This protein activates genes that can protect cartilage from degradation and can reduce osteoporosis severity. This article shows promise in NRF-2’s ability to reduce oxidation and promote bone health.
