The Low-fat Yogurt Rumour

Rumour: Low-fat yogurt has been known to reduce chronic inflammation.

Truth: This is true.

With obesity growing at an alarming rate, chronic inflammation levels are also on the rise. Inflammation has also been linked with other physiological factors that can further damage the body. A study recently published in the British Journal of Nutrition examined how low-fat yogurt had the potential to reduce inflammation amongst obese women.

This randomized controlled trial identified that 339g servings of low-fat yogurt increased the IgM antibody that has been linked to reducing inflammation. They also found that immune system inhibitors were also increased after yogurt consumption. This study suggests that low-fat yogurt consumption has the potential to reduce chronic inflammation in addition to boosting immune system properties among obese individuals. To read more about the article findings, click here.
