Brain Teaser

In a medical office, there are three boxes with medical supplies. One box contains only needles, the second box contains only syringes, and the third box contains needles and syringes.

All three boxes are labeled incorrectly. A nurse needs to label all boxes correctly, but she is allowed to select only one item from one of the boxes. How can she do it?

See the answer

Answer: She has to select an item from the box marked ‘needles and syringes’. If it was a needle she selected, she knew that the box could only contain needles. If it was a syringe, she knows that the box could only contain syringes, since each box is incorrectly marked. If, for example, a needle was selected, she would mark that box ‘needles’ and switch the other two incorrect labels around. Now all three boxes would be labeled correctly.
