Brain Teaser

Little Jimmy was so tired of fruit flies, so he decided to catch them all.

In 4 days he caught 216 flies, and every day he was catching as many flies as he caught in all previous days.

How many flies did Jimmy catch on each day?

See the answer

Answer:  27, 27, 54, 108
Let X be the number of flies Jimmy caught on the first day. Then on the second day he also caught X flies. On the third day he caught X+X =2X flies, and on the fourth day he caught X+X+2X = 4X. So we have, X + X + 2X + 4X = 216. Solving for X, we get X = 27. Therefore, on the first day Jimmy caught 27 flies, on the second day he also caught 27 flies, on the third day he caught 54 flies, and on the fourth day he caught 108 flies.
